Should the town or the homeowner take responsibility if I get injured on a sidewalk?

slip and fallUnder Connecticut law, municipalities, towns and cities have the right to transfer liability from public sidewalks to the actual property owner where the sidewalk is located. However, there has to be formal action by each town to do that and unless and until they do that, the town or the city remains liable so it’s crucial whenever there is a slip or fall or injury caused by defective sidewalk to determine what the law is in that community and once we established that, we know the proper party to bring a claim against.

Failure to do that can have very serious results because you may bring a claim against the wrong party and not find out about it in time. Under Connecticut law, claims against a municipality must be brought within a very short time period after the injury so don’t delay. Come see us and let us determine who the proper party is.
