People often ask how long it will take to close on a house once we have a signed contract and that depends primarily on whether or not you’re will seek a mortgage or not. If you’re going to seek a mortgage, I tell people that it’s going to take them anywhere from 30-45 days to get mortgage commitment. If however, they’ve gotten pre-qualified, meaning they’ve already worked with the lender and know that they can get a mortgage before they sign a contract, that period is going to be shortened. Otherwise, if it’s the normal situation where you’re going out and looking for a mortgage after you have a signed contract, plan on 30-45 days to get a mortgage commitment and then probably another 2 weeks to 3 weeks before a closing will be set and held.
